Course Overview

This course provides students with a practical understanding of the application of disaster control informatics based on fundamental theories from the perspective of risk assessment, information gathering (handling) and various core technologies such as Geographic Information System (GIS).

Those who do not belong to the PhD program in Empowerment Informatics need the permission of the instructor to register.

Course Remarks

This course provides students with a practical understanding of the
application of disaster control informatics based on fundamental theories from the perspective of risk
assessment, information gathering (handling) and various core technologies
such as Geographic Information System(GIS).
A minimum of five students are required.
Lecture in English.

Course Objectives

1.Recognize the major disaster information applications and their significance within the mainstream disaster control.
2.Have a sound working knowledge of basic of disaster control and disaster information principles within the context of practical disaster applications.
3.Recognize the role and importance of these principles in a comprehensive range of disaster control applications, both from a technical perspective and from the risk and operational management perspective.
