In this course, each 1st year student will give a presentation on his/her research in order to improve his/her presentation skills.

Relation to Degree Program Competences

This seminar is related mainly to "1. The basic theory for analyzing and assessing risk" and partly to "6. The ability to carry out tasks and take a leadership role in a research project."

Course Objectives(Learning Outcomes)

This course is designed to provide an environment in which presentation and discussion skills are improved through interaction with other students. Also, this course aims at the acquisition of ethical knowledge.
1) Acquiring broad knowledge in risk engineering, and active participation in questions and answers.
2) Acquiring skills to make logical and persuasive presentations within restricted time.
3) Acquiring knowledge about research ethics and engineering ethics.

Class Schedule

1)Ongoing research presentation   
2)Discussion on the research review given by 2nd year students in the master degree program

Course Prerequisites

Limited to students in the department of risk engineering

Grading Philosophy

The evaluation will be based on individual presentations, reports, attendance, and questions and answers. The presentations will be evaluated based on the logic, clarity, persuasiveness, and length. Students should explain how the contents of presentation can contribute to a safe, secure, and stable society. Questions and answers will be evaluated based on level of participation, accuracy, and clarity. Students should attend RERM not less than 6 times.

-own presentation (5%)
-auditing and discussion at presentation by other students and RERM (95%)
-outside of the class: preparation of presentation materials and preparation for the presentation
