授業概要
This course is an introduction to development economics, covering both theoretical and empirical research related to development. The course will cover many of the key topics in development: poverty and inequality, industrialization,rural sector development,human capital,governance and institution,among others.
授業の到達目標(学修成果)
This course is a non-technical introduction to development economics. The course will discuss key concepts and issues of economic development. Students will learn how tools of economics are applied to understanding of the problems of development, and how data and empirical evidence can shed light on conflicting views and questions about the process of development.

Each week, we will discuss key topics of development economics. Concepts and theories related to each topic will be explained, and data demonstrating the issues and policy implications of such empirical evidence will also be discussed.

The lecture will be conducted in English. However, students may participate in the questions and discussion either in English or in Japanese. Active participation in the class discussion is highly encouraged.
